Hanukkah Designs 2013 board by Laura Bolter Design. See more holiday cards

The Minted holiday challenge is the biggest challenge of the year. This year over 3000 designs have been submitted. If you want to see one of my Hanukkah designs offered this year, take a few minutes to vote. You'll need to create an account if you don't already have one, it won't take long at all. And, then you can catch up on what's been keeping me busy and help me out at the same time!

Perhaps you'd like to vote on Christmas designs, too! Have a look and let me know what you think! Thanks!

I know, I know. It's been a while again since my last post. With these shows spaced just one month apart there hasn't been much time for posting.

This is from the last show at IU's Israelpalooza. It was a great time and a PERFECT day, especially since all it seems to do in Bloomington is rain! The weather gods were certainly smiling down on Israel's celebration that day.

Besides the fun event, I spent the weekend with Hannah and Dann who are newly engaged! I'm going to be a mother-in-law! Dann had just proposed a few days before and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Hannah show off her beautiful ring to all of her friends who stopped by.

Next up... KaleidoFest in St. Louis next weekend May 3 to the 8th! Look for me at the JCC Artist's Bazaar.

A Letter to Dad

Dear Dad,

Is Uncle Irwin with you? I hope so, for so many reasons. I hope the two of you can come to terms with the things that happened when you were both young and on through the years. I hope you can both make peace with the things that were said and done and the things that weren't.

I hope you can hug him for me and tell him how sorry I am we didn't talk in the last couple of weeks. I hope that he can explain to you that we are all made in the image of God no matter who or what we are and that we should be be exactly who God intended us to be.

I hope he can tell you how much we all miss you and think about you. I hope he tells you about Hannah and Rachel and how amazing they are and how much you'd love them and be proud of them.

I hope you're all there together with God and that one day I'll understand God and what our lives mean.

I hope Uncle Irwin knows that I loved him and that I would've come to help if I didn't think he'd really rather I not come.

I hope you know how much I love you and always will.

I hope someday I can hug you both myself and tell you so.

Which way do I go?

I thought I'd look at Blogger again. I copy and pasted ALL of my Wordpress posts back on Blogger. They just allow you to do more things. They've added categories or "labels" and you can run the Etsy mini and AdSense.

I'd love to hear from others if they have any experience, good or bad, with either of these options.

In the meantime, I'm going to post on both for a bit and see how it goes.

A New Address.....

Well, it's time to move. Curly's Queue can now be found at I really like some of the features there, including categories and stats. I hate that I can't post a personalized banner, but I hope that will come soon. Please follow me to my new home and change your bookmark. I hope to see you there!

Welcome 2006!

A new banner for a new year. Let's hope this year is filled to the brim with health and prosperity for all. Peace would be very welcome too.

As for my work, I hope 2006 brings new opportunities for growth and creative expression, and a greater sense of self respect for my art.

Happy New Year to everyone!

It's Been A While

I've been sooooo busy! The arts festival went very well and I sold six paintings. Yea! I've also been asked to exhibit at a benefit show for the Medical Missions Foundation. I enjoyed the arts festival so much and am looking forward to exhibiting again, and for such a good cause. I've checked out a few art fairs, Plaza and Hidden Glen, and think I'll apply to a few more next season.

Now I'm back to illustrating and these are a few of the pieces I've done. The new version of Painter is terrific fun and I'm learning so much. I have 30 images to complete in the next week, so I'll be posting more very soon! Comments anyone?

Illustration Friday: Empty

For me there has never been anything as scary as a blank canvas and an empty head. Every time I complete a project I always feel I've executed the last idea I'll ever have--that there's nothing left inside. Somehow (it's a miracle really) the next project brings new ideas. I don't think I'll ever break out of that pattern. Does anyone ever feel really confident creating?

Anyway, I've completed some new paintings for the upcoming art show. I hope to take photos tomorrow and post them here. Check back. I'd love to get some feedback on them.

Envy isn't coming very easily yet. So while thoughts have been swimming around in my head, I've been experimenting with some different techniques in Painter left over from last week's topic "aquatic." Here are the results...

Illustration Friday: Aquatic

1. Consisting of, relating to, or being in water: an aquatic environment.
2. Living or growing in, on, or near the water: aquatic animals and plants.

Water is the source of all life. Without water there is no life.

My first orginal illustration specifically created for Ilustration Friday. There wasn't a lot of time for execution, but the idea is there.
